Ruach, the Holy Spirit

Understanding the holy spirit

Ruach, the Holy Spirit, is the third person of the Godhead.  Ruach, the Hebrew word for Spirit, is the quietest of the trio with the greatest power to create.  He has all the power.  Everything you see on this earth is because of him:  The sights, the smells, the sounds, the taste and the feel.

As we move on, let me make a disclaimer; every picture we are painting is in plain English and the diction we use is to help clarify the ideas you have about life in the Heavenlies.  To truly explain and define each member of the Godhead takes words no language contains.

character of the holy spirit

The Holy Spirit is the most humble of the three meaning He is the only one who receives no credit for His work.  Despite all He does, He consistently and constantly glorifies both the Father and the Son.  Untroubled by this, Ruach works quickly and diligently knowing He is an indispensable part of the team.  Not one of them works without the other; the three are interconnected and interdependent and the Spirit demonstrates that interdependence on every level and with everything He does.

His willingness to take no glory is where we see this.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit

When a man and a woman conceive a child, it is the Holy Spirit who gives life to that child.  A moth bedding down in the Bark of a tree was made possible by the Spirit.  A person missing an accident by the hair on their chinny chin chin, was saved by Ruach.  Lastly on the day of Pentacost, after Jesus returned to his Father, it was the Spirit who came as a mighty rushing wind.

True power is the only term broad enough to explain the Holy Spirit.  His judgments are right and just at all times.  He executes the plan the Godhead put together; ensuring YHWH’s word NEVER returns void and accomplishes everything it was sent forth to do!  The Comforter is unconcerned with recognition and sets a great example of storing our treasures in Heaven and how the fluidity of relationships can change lives.  There are times when we have to be in the background so YHWH can exalt us.

Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit

Why don’t more people know who the Holy Spirit really is?  Looking back at previous blogs, God the Father has a great sense of humor and laughs a lot.  Jesus is pretty serious. However, if a person says something negative about either one of them; forgiveness is available; but if you blaspheme, or talk badly, about the Holy Spirit, you’re finished; scar Him and be left to your own devices.  You become a reprobate mind or dead on the spot.  We’ll talk more about blasphemy in an upcoming blog.

Ruach’s Role In the world

Ruach’s role in this world is a major one.  He keeps evil at bay.  This means it can only go so far.  Because of the fall; evil will be here for a short while.  Adam opened the door to allow evil into a world where they originally had no authority, no place and no power.  We too make bad decisions.  Bad decisions come with consequences we have to live with.  Nevertheless, Ruach can turn them to good!

(A side note…the day is fast approaching when the Spirit will be removed and evil will be allowed to reign on the Earth.  On that day, you will see atrocities you never imagined possible, and Jesus WILL return to establish the new kingdom.)

The Role of Christ with the Spirit

Next, once a person has accepted Christ and begins reading the Bible, it is the Spirit who opens your eyes to understand what God is saying.  He shows you how to read the text and leads us into a genuine understanding of the word; illustrating YHWH’s expectations of us.

Making the bible real

Ruach is the one who comes along and makes what happens in the Bible real.  He is also the one who corrects any misunderstandings.  Watch this!  As a milk drinker, I swore Nebuchadnezzar became a literal donkey, I thought it was the coolest thing ever!  God turned a man from a human into a donkey.

Yep, TOTALLY wrong!  As funny as the image was in my head, the understanding was wrong.  Not long after, the Spirit brought me someone who said:  “You do know he didn’t turn him into a literal donkey?”  We went back to the book and both began to laugh.  As clear as day the Bible said, he was like a donkey.  Ruach works diligently to give you clarity and understanding.

The spirit testifies

Last but not by far least, the Holy Spirit is the one who calls you and testifies to your spirit.  This calling is the force driving you to want to learn more!  There are times when the push is so strong you can’t stop looking and the hunger becomes so great you just want to be fed.  The Bible is the only thing capable of satisfying that hunger through prayer and reading.  This man is the busiest of them all.  He really does handle a great deal of the things we have going on.

The holy spirit’s responsibilities
  • He brings us into the Kingdom.
  • Ensures clarity and understanding of the word.
  • Shows us how to pray and what to pray for.
  • Sends people our way to help us through rough times.
  • Comes and brings comfort when we are hurting or in pain.

The Holy Spirit is the conduit through which we can have a deeply intimate, intense, love filled relationship with the Godhead; making us feel completely whole all the while confirming we ARE going to be OK.  He is truly the best friend you will ever have!

Gotta run.  See you later gator!
